Sturm is a new original font from @typojo inspired by the architectural lettering on the glazed mosaic tiles of the Victor Sturm building at the corner of ‘Oever’ and ‘Steegsken’ in Antwerp (Belgium). These tiles were most likely crafted by Gilliot & Cie, Manufactures Céramiques d’Hemixem, one of Sturm’s main suppliers.
Sturm is a display typeface in the art deco style, and features solid geometric characters with a light border. Each capital is executed in four ways: the original design, an outline version, the separate inner shape, and the inner shape aligned to the baseline and capheight. This makes Sturm very suitable for logo’s, editorial & poster design, advertising, branding and packaging design.
Sturm is part of ‘Typo Belgiëque’, a practice oriented scientific research & type design project examining the visual design identity of Belgium in the nineteenth and twentieth century that breathes new life into Belgium’s historical typeface families. ◊
